Tutorial 1: Differentiated Instruction

Please click here for a Mindmap of Tutorial 1.

3 Things I've Learnt in Tutorial 1

i. I've learnt to discover learners’ readiness through the following strategies:
a. Question Box
b. 3-2-1
c. Windshield Check

ii. I've learnt that learners’ learning profiles can be ascertained via:
•Sternberg’s 3 Intelligences
i. Creative Intelligence
ii. Analytical Intelligence
iii. Practical Intelligence

and
•Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences

iii. Learners’ interests can also be determined through:
-Observation checklists
-Interviews with student, parents, etc
-Day to day interactions
-Profiling

2 Ideas I Have for DI
i.
Use the introductory lesson during my teaching practicum, to share my interests with students, before getting them to fill a questionaire on their interests, after the lesson. Click
here to view questionaire.

ii.
Questionaire could be converted to an online survey using simple scripting software such as HotPotatoes or Dreamweaver, so that students can answer it online. This would eliminate the need to collect the questionaire back from the students (of whom several will invariably "forget to bring" it to school the following lesson) and I reckon that students prefer online surveys to a pen and paper worksheet.

1 Question I'd Like to Ask
5 classes X 40 students = 200 responses = a lot of reading

I forsee a mountain of data that I will have to sieve through, in order to ascertain students' specific interests. I reckon that it'd take a considerable amount of time and effort to do so, and adapt my lesson plans according to their interests.

Therefore, how can I possibly make the process of discovering the interest of 200 students less daunting?
