We should only sacrifice a small part of the reserve only when really needed. For example, when all alternatives have been exhausted. We should cut down on population to lessen housing needs so that there would not need so much land. Destroy bungalows which should be replaced with more space efficient buildings. Taller buildings should be built instead of bungalows to save space and land. maximise land use by combing public amenities together into a multipupose building. We could also transfer land uses to the sea eg floating houses like kelongs and floating schools, then we could live and work on ships instead of on land.
We should not cut off ALL the trees in the Nature Reserve but that doesnt means that we should neglect all our land needs. Before we cut off all the trees, we should try other decisions instead of immediately cutting off the trees.
For example, we can use kelongs as houses. However, in that way, if Tsunami comes, we might not even have a life to live. Another way is that, we can upgrade the existing buildings instead of cutting off the trees to build new ones as there are very few people homeless so there wil be no need to build even more houses. Also, we can either plant trees in Condominiums whenever or whereever we can or, we can also make buildings and condos smaller and taller.
Even though we are aware that it is important to save the reserve, we also know that Singapore is land scarce and its needs must be met, so we suggest that we should only decrease the size of the secondary forest only when we are reali facing a big - in fact a major economic crisis, whereby everyone is facing the risk of losing their jobs. At that moment, only we should sell those plot of land to savage the situaton. Nevertheless even if we have to sell the land it should be kept to the minimum which is enough to slove our country's problems which have no other solutions or alternatives. We should convince singaporeans that living in house of luxury is unnecessary and wastful. In fact We can also increase our standard of living by living with a nature reserve that provide an excellent prospects of soothing our emotions and of providing from the hectic and solitary urban world.
